Some of you will remember how earlier this year we raised enough money for Sina to have the workshop refitted so she could have her wheelchair fit under the sewing machine table. It was so exciting…only to have lockdown hit and all orders dry up! Incredibly Sina started sewing some Monk Bags. I had brought one with me as a sample with the hope that one day I could have them made. Sina’s Monk Bags were so so beautiful!
The Monk Bags are amazing for lots of reasons:
– we only use UPCYCLED fabric which means less material going into landfill
– the strap is really wide which means that it’s super comfortable to wear
– I’ve added an extra pocket to the original design so there is now an outside pocket as well as an inner one
– when you order a Monk Bag you are supporting Sina with having a job (and we hope that we get enough sales to have some of Sina’s friends join in the fun as well)
When I lived in Cambodia I used to love seeing the monks walking from home to home. They are just so beautiful with their shaved heads and orange robes. I noticed that they all had the same kind of bag which I liked the look of. I ended up buying one but of course couldn’t use it (although #monklife did seem kind of appealing at the time) so I decided to try having one made. I adjusted the design somewhat and absolutely loooooved my comfortable bag. It’s so exciting to me that almost a decade later I can finally start selling these bags and Sina can have a job!! Win win!
